January 2, 1932 – June 8, 2023
Dallas Ray Cottrell, age 91 of Deerfield, passed away at UH Portage Medical Center on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Dallas was born in Stinson, West Virginia on January 2, 1932 to Otmer and Lovie (Matheney) Cottrell.
Dallas was a member of the Deerfield Friends Church. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the US Navy Seabees. He was also an active member of the American Legion. Dallas was a government certified welder and had many other trade skills. As a welder and a contractor, Dallas had the opportunity to travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire). He also worked on the space shuttle for NASA and rides for Disney. Dallas was an accomplished musician. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the archery club. Dallas loved and cared for his family; his wife, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren and their spouses, and his great-grandchildren.
Those to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 69 years, Myra Cottrell of Deerfield; 2 beautiful daughters: Cheryl (Dennis) Diehl of Boardman and Myra Jean (Brian) Dittmer of Deerfield; 4 handsome sons: Dallas (Cathy) Cottrell Jr, of Akron, Darryl (Jessy) Cottrell of Deerfield, Gerald (Angel) Cottrell of Deerfield, and Jeff Cottrell of Deerfield; 19 wonderful grandchildren; and 20 amazing great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dallas was preceded in death by a brother, Don; and a sister, Flossie "Dean" Askew.
Following cremation, graveside services will be held at the Deerfield Cemetery on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 11 AM with Pastor Jody Hill officiating.
