Donald William Bendetta Jr. was peacefully called home to his Heavenly Father on October 27, 2018 with his wife of 64 years by his side.
Donald was born in Malvern, Ohio on October 29, 1935 to Donald and Mabel (House) Bendetta, both of whom proceeded him in death. He graduated from Malvern High School in 1953, and married his high school sweetheart, Virginia "Ginny" Romano on April 19, 1954 at St. Francis Xavier Church.
Don worked in the family businesses: Don's Dairy Store, Bendetta's Excavating, and Bendetta's TV and Appliance Store; all while maintaining a full-time job at Sugardale Meats. As his family grew, he secured a position as a Purchasing Agent for Melbourne Brothers Construction Company.
In 1983, Don and Ginny helped move his mother to Florida and they decided to stay. Together they managed a large condominium complex until retirement in 2000. They then split their time between Naples, Florida and West Jefferson, North Carolina.
Don was a pro-bowler, a hard worker, and a great provider to his family. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers; he enjoyed playing golf, and especially like watching Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Virginia "Ginny" (Romano) Bendetta, of West Jefferson, North Carolina; sister, Kaaren (John) Grodhaus of Magnolia; daughter Christine Grimes of Canton; sons Jeffrey T Bendetta of Naples Florida, Donald P (Carmela) Bendetta of North Canton, Giovanni A Bendetta of Sandusky; grandchildren Carrie Anne (Chris) Wahl, Jeremy (Jenifer) Grimes, Megan (Andrew) Marihugh, Jared (Alana) Bendetta, and Anastasia Bendetta; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Bendetta family would like to extend a very special thank you to their friends/neighbors Mark and Mary Hammonds who were Ginny's Guardian Angels and source of strength through Don's battle with Parkinson's Disease. Further thanks is extended to Ashe Memorial Hospital healthcare team at AMH HealthCare Nurses Crystal, Lesley, Andrea, and Brenda.
Love one another (I Corinthians 13).
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church in Malvern. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Don's name to the Michael J Fox Foundation or the Parkinson's Foundation.
