Florence Anita (Hansen) Wendling Grindstaff, 92, of Minerva, passed peacefully into God's hands, Tuesday, June 10th, 2014. She was born in Ivonia, Pennsylvania on February 3, 1922, to Christian and Catherine (Johnson) Hansen.
As a former resident in the communities of Canton and Carrollton for many years, she was active in the job force and enjoyed being a homemaker. Her various employments included Topp's Department Store, Fishers Big Wheel Department Store, Grindstaff Department Store, Free Press Standard Newspaper and Republic Steel. Additionally, with her husband Rathey, they owned and operated the Carrollton restaurant, Kounty Kountry Kitchen.
She was an avid quilter and a former member of the Carrollton Quilting Club. She loved to crochet, sew and garden.
Preceding her in death were her devoted husband, Rathey, her son Edward Wendling, daughter Betty Stacey, granddaughter Anita Wilson, twins Brandy Shaye George (girl), Shane Allen George (boy), grandsons Justin Lee Grindstaff and Ricky Yerger.
Also preceding her in death were siblings Walter Hansen, Catherine Schaar-Harris, Duane McClain and Eleanor Hansen Reagan.
She is survived by several children, biological or otherwise. Locally are Lisa (John) George, of Minerva, Rena (Roy) Wallace, of Carrollton; John (Janet) Grindstaff, of Minerva, Anna Hinkle, of New Franklin, Ray (Jian) Grindstaff, of Carrollton, and former daughter-law, Barbara Grindstaff.
Out of the area survivors are Linda Divine, of Texas, William Wendling, of Cleveland and Veronica (Wayne) Keever, of North Carolina.
Additionally she is survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held at Liberty Cemetery with Pastor Dale Roberts officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas, Stark and Carroll Counties, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio, or to your favorite charity or church in her memory.
