George Francis Matyas, 81, passed away at Great Trail Care Center on November 14, 2011.
He was Born on April 23, 1930 to the late Thomas and Elizabeth Matyas in Malvern, Ohio.
George was a member of St Francis Xavier Church and Men's Club, Local Union 109 of Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons. Mr. Matyas was a Korean War veteran with U.S. Army and a 1948 graduate of Malvern High School where to date he holds the record for most points scored in a single basketball game.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Richards, Louise Mellen and Katherine Romano, and brothers, Frank, Tom, and John Matyas, a niece Linda (Romano) Frazier and a nephew, Paul Matyas.
He is survived by his brother, Steve Matyas of California as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews.
George enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, sports and family gatherings. He had an interest in building projects and always had a good joke or childhood story to tell. He was always willing to help others and never complained about anything. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. He has truly left his mark in the world with the love he gave to us all.
George's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the care and support given him from the staff at Great Trail Care Center.
Family and friends may visit Thursday, November 17, from 5- 8 pm at St Francis Xavier Church in Malvern, Ohio. A funeral mass will be held in St Francis Xavier Church at 11:00 am on Friday, November 18, 2011 with Celebrant Father Vic Cinson. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to St. Francis Church, 125 Carrollton St N, Malvern, OH 44644 in George's memory.
