John H. "Jake" Yoder
John Harvey "Jake" Yoder, age 85, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012. He was born in Canton, June 5, 1927, the son of Fred and Edna (Fry) Yoder.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred, Jr. (Catherine) Yoder and Paul (Ruth) Yoder; niece Cathy Yoder and nephew John Paul Yoder.
He is survived by a son Brad (Sudie) Yoder of Carrollton, OH and Paula Jo (Jim) Moore of Kensington, OH; ex-wife and best friend Gloria "Tootie" Lipscomb; his grandchildren, Evan, Kellen, Bradon and Alanna Yoder; Josh(Lindsey) Moore, Logan and Taylor Moore, Landon (Corrin) Clark, Corey (Samantha) Clark; and great-granddaughter Jayden Clark. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and many special friends.
Jake graduated from Minerva High School in 1945, going into the Navy during his senior year of high school. He served on an aircraft carrier during World War II. He attended Mount Union College.
Jake owned and operated the Southern Inn from 1958 to 2000. He was a member of the Minerva Eagles, the Minerva VFW, Minerva and Malvern Athletic Booster Clubs. He was also a member of the Minerva First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Minerva Firefighters Assn., 505 E. Lincoln Way, Minerva, OH 44657, or the Minerva Athletic Booster Club.
Funeral services will be held at The First Presbyterian Church, Minerva, Ohio, at 11:00 a. m. on Monday, July 30th, 2012 with Rev. Virginia Birks and Rev. Ben George officiating. Calling hours will be held Sunday 5 - 8 p.m. and one hour before services at The First Presbyterian Church.
