James Brian Greene

James Brian Greene, a beloved husband and father, peacefully passed away on August 12, 2026 at the age of 83. Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 2, 1942 to the late Kenneth and Beatrice (Rippey) Greene. He was a man who worked hard throughout his life and loved his family dearly.

Professionally, he was a familiar and reassuring face in the neighborhood, known to all as the community Rite Aid Pharmacist where he dedicated over 40 years of faithful service. He didn't just fill prescriptions; he built relationships. His patience, care, and genuine concern for every person who walked up to his counter earned him widespread recognition as everyone's favorite pharmacist, a title bestowed upon him by Rite Aid in 2010.

When he was not behind the counter, he found peace and joy tending to his garden. He also possessed a fun, competitive spirit and spent years playing on a bowling league with the neighborhood men. He was immensely proud of their camaraderie, and the team frequently took home 1st place finishes, adding many fond memories and triumphs to his weekly routines.

Above all, he was a man who loved all sports. There simply was not a single sport he did not follow. From the tension of a basketball game, to a Sunday golf or tennis tournament, he never missed an opportunity to tune in. His daily schedule and family meals were famously planned around halftimes and the precious intervals between games, a testament to his pure love for the spirit of competition.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Pamela; his loving daughter, Meg (Jeff) Mattern and his son Darby Greene. Jim had 5 grandchildren: Zachary (Hallie) Mattern, Alexander Mattern, Brooke Mattern, Drew Greene, and Allyson Greene. He also had two great-grandchildren: Mishka Greene and Noah Mattern.

A private interment will be scheduled at a later date.
