John Robert Howlett, age 89 of Minerva, passed away at Minerva Healthcare & Rehabilitation on Saturday, December 4, 2021. John was born in Minerva, Ohio on June 27, 1932 to John D and Dorothy G (Jewell) Howlett.
John served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member and chaplain of the American Legion Post 357. He enjoyed working with youth and was involved in Boy Scouts, 4-H, and FFA. He was a former member of the Gideons and the Augusta Ruritans. He was a trustee at Mount Zion United Methodist Church for 33 years and a member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge.
John is survived by his daughter, Beth (Brian) of Magnolia; a son, John of Minerva; 4 grandchildren: Brianna (Andrew) Patterson of East Sparta, Richard of Minot ND, Robert (Sarah) of Dellroy and Cody of Dellroy; and a sister, Twila German of Vermillion.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Elizabeth Howlett who passed away on December 27, 2020; and a son, James R Howlett.
Funeral service will be held at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 2004 Bellflower Street, Minerva, Ohio, on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Rev. John Carpenter of Mount Zion United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mount Zion United Methodist Church.
