84, Minerva, passed to eternal rest, Monday, Dec. 13th, 2010 at his home. John was born in Dillonvale, Ohio on June 13, 1926, the son of the late James and Mary (Hooker) Kumbera. A retired truck driver with Sohio, Canton Bulk Plant, and earlier in Tiltonsville, Ohio, he also worked for the Dillonvale CO-OP and was a member of the Dillonvale Fire Department. He served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. He was a member of Minerva United Methodist Church, Tubal Lodge #551 F&AM, A.A.S.R. Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, McClellan Post #50 DAV in Alliance, AARP and Past President of the Sohio Quarter Century Club-Canton Unit. He was also an advisor for Minerva Chapter Order of Demolay and Minerva Assembly Order of the Rainbow for Girls.
John is survived by his faithful companion, Buddy; three daughters, Diane L. (Ronnie) Phillips of Minerva, JoClaire Kumbera of Mechanicstown and Darlie (Rodney) Katz of Canton; three grandchildren, Mary Phillips of Minerva, John Phillips of Louisville, Amanda Katz of Canton; one great-granddaughter, Brianna Phillips of Massillon; and a brother, William C. Kumbera of Steubenville. He was preceded in death by his wife Emily (Novak) Kumbera who died in 2005; a granddaughter, Lydia Katz; brothers, Robert M., James G., and Raymond G. Kumbera; sisters, Elsie V. Berryman, Irene R. Gosnell, Edna V. Kumbera, Mary Wilma Black, and Margaret R. Tolbert.
Funeral Services will be held at the Bartley Funeral Home, at 12 noon on Friday, Dec. 17th, 2010 with Rev. Susan Lausch and Chaplain Chad Durfee officiating. Calling hours will be held Thursday 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. and Friday, one hour before services at the Bartley Funeral Home. Masonic Services by Tubal Lodge #551 F&AM will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery Minerva, Ohio. In appreciation of their loving care, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Stark Carroll and Tuscarawas Counties, 1040 Trump Rd. NW, Carrollton, OH 44615.
