Obituary

Lamar Gene Steves, born August 31, 1953, left his earthly life for his Heavenly home two days before his 58th birthday, on Monday, August 29th, 2011. He suffered from a debilitating stroke 31 years ago and his recent battle with kidney and lung cancer is now over.

Among his favorite hobbies were visiting his life's pride and joy, grandchildren Mallory and Brayden of Florida. He swam avidly, watched Nascar racing, stock car racing and baseball games. He was a master crafter by cross-stitching many prize winning pillowcases, tablecloths, quilt tops and decorative pieces. He assisted his mother in making and dressing dolls for the Salvation Army to distribute at Christmas.
He attended Bayard United Methodist Church and was a member of the Pelican Club, Classic Travelers and West Township Ruritan Club.

Lamar traveled to the North Canton YMCA twice a week to swim and exercise in a physically challenged class the staff there created 25 years ago.

He is survived by his parents, Elmer and Velma Steves of Minerva; son Jason (Kelly) Steves, grandchildren Mallory and Brayden of DelRay Beach, FL; sister Linda Steves (Terry Gaub) and brother Lynn of Denver Colorado; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the YMCA Physically Challenged Class of North Canton, 200 S. Main St., North Canton 44720.
