Michael Douglas Penick Sr., age 75 of Canton, formerly of Malvern, passed away at Aultman Hospital on Tuesday March 3, 2026. Michael was born in Canton, Ohio on August 12, 1950 to Richard and Betty (Householder) Penick.
Michael left behind a legacy of dedication and service to his country, his community, and his profession. He served honorably in the Air Force, embodying the values of duty, honor, and commitment throughout his life.
Michael was a skilled machinist at Hercules Engines, where he contributed his expertise and hard work over the years. His career was marked by precision and a steadfast dedication to his craft.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael was deeply committed to public service. As a respected member of the Brown Township Fire Department for 35 years, he demonstrated bravery and selflessness in his efforts to protect and serve the community. During those 35 years, he served as the Chief of the Fire Department for 15 years. As a founding member of the Carroll County Arson Task Force, Michael worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. His dedication extended to his involvement with the Carroll and Stark County Fireman's Association, where he forged strong bonds with fellow firefighters and first responders.
Michael also played an integral role on the Malvern Village Council, where his leadership and vision helped shape the future of the area.
Michael is survived by three sons: Michael D. (Danielle) Penick Jr. of Navarre, Brett (Kathyrn) Penick of Barberton, and Wayne Penick of Canton; six grand-daughters: Kelsie (Christopher) Hoelzle of Clawson, MI, Whitney Penick of Malvern, Carissa Penick Malvern, Vanessa Penick of Alliance, Makenna (Colby) Moore of Carrollton, and Kailey Penick of Barberton; two grand-sons: Austin Bamford and Spencer Beers both of Navarre; four great-grandchildren: Molly Hoelzle, Theodore Hoelzle, Vincent Hoelzle, and Barrett Bohrer; a sister, Deborah Clear of Malvern; and a brother, Jess Nichols of Akron.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Kay Penick; and three brothers: Donald Penick, Richard Penick, and Randy Penick.
Funeral service will be held at First Christian Church of Malvern, 4046 Coral Road, Malvern, Ohio, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 11 AM with Mr. Kenny Thomas of First Christian Church of Malvern officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 6 PM to 8 PM and again on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 10 AM to 11 AM at First Christian Church of Malvern. The Last Call service will be held at 7:45 pm on Monday, March 9, 2026, at First Christian Church of Malvern.
