Obituary

Raymond (Ray) Carpenter, 87, of Malvern, passed away Wednesday, September 9th, 2015 in his daughter's home.

Raymond was born in Cambridge, OH on May 17, 1928, a son of the late Ervin L and Minnie A (Robertson) Carpenter.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a 3rd Class Gunners Mate during WW II.

Ray was a self employed carpenter for over 60 years. He was also trained as a stationary engineer and fired the steam boiler at the Algonquin Mill for many years.

Ray was active in the community serving the Malvern Christian Care Center for 10 years, and acting as the van driver for the Minerva Senior Center. He was a former Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent at Malvern First Christian Church. He enjoyed playing the organ for area nursing homes, and played in the band, Joyful Sounds. Ray was active in the Malvern Lions Club, and served as a Malvern Police Officer under Mayor Bob Wells. He was a member of New Life Christian Church in Waynesburg.

Ray is survived by a daughter, Sandra K (Keith) Jones, of Dellroy; two grandchildren, Michael K. (Sonja) Jones of Wilmington, NC, Jeffrey P. (Cindy) Jones of Carrollton; 5 great-grandchildren 2 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ervin L (Flora Jean) Carpenter Jr., of East Sparta.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys M (Gween) Carpenter, in 2010, a brother; Max R Carpenter, and a sister Jane Wade.

Ray's wishes were to be cremated. There will be a private family service at a later date.
