Robert Harlen Hoopes, 84, of Minerva, passed away, Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014 at Aultman Hospital, following a short illness.
Robert was born in Minerva, OH on December 9, 1929, a son of the late Kenneth and Mary (Severn) Hoopes.
He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He and his wife Ruth were the owners and operators of Hoopes Florist & Greenhouse in Minerva for 30 years. After they sold the business, he worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart in Alliance for sixteen years.
Robert is survived by a daughter, Constance Gang and her fiancé Clarence Rayner, of Canton, OH; a son, Joseph Hoopes, of Florida; eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Bob and Ruth raised their grandchildren Chasity and Jason as their own children.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann (Heylmun) Hoopes, who died in 2007 and brothers Clyde and Eugene Hoopes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26th, with Celebrant Fr. Victor Cinson. Calling hours will be held Friday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m.at the Bartley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. There will be a Prayer Service 8:45 p.m. Friday in the Bartley Funeral Home.
