Ruth Eileen Hillyer, 95, Minerva, passed away peacefully Friday, April 1st, 2016 at the Arbors at Minerva.
Ruth was born in Augusta, Ohio on October 25, 1920, a daughter of the late John and Inez (Wallace) McCort.
She worked in the cafeteria at Minerva High School and at Francis Dairy.
Ruth was proud of the fact that she played high school basketball for Augusta High School at a time when girls were only allowed to take two steps before having to pass the ball.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was active in church activities, when she lived in Summitville, she was active in the Women's Club.
Ruth is survived by
a daughter, Judith A. Hillyer, of Minerva; two sons Donald F. (Miriam) Hillyer, Jr., of North Canton; Melvin T. Hillyer, of Lisbon; grandchildren David Hillyer of North Canton, Dr. Mark (Jennifer) Hillyer of North Canton; great-grandchildren Matthew, Nicholas Hillyer, Luke, Emma and Sophia Hillyer; a sister, Maxine Nigro, of Minerva.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Franklin Hillyer, Sr.; sisters Catherine Marie Breault and Frances Marilyn Witts.
Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5th, 2016. Calling hours will be Monday 7 - 9 p.m. at the Bartley Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Arbors at Minerva and Dr. Barr for the loving care they gave their mother and grandmother.
