Velma Margaret Steves, 93, of Minerva, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and faithful friend, passed away, Sunday, January 22nd, 2017 at Danbury Senior Living in Alliance.
Velma was born in Minerva, OH on March 23, 1923, a daughter of the late Albert and Minnie (Bauer) Fankhauser.
She was a member of Bayard United Methodist Church
Her life was her family and she so enjoyed looking at all of the pictures of past and present family members. She sewed dresses and dressed dolls for the Salvation Army for many years and was active in the North Canton YMCA. After her son Lamar suffered a major stroke, she and her husband Elmer devoted their lives to making sure he lived a good and productive life.
Velma is survived by a daughter, Linda (Terry Gaub) Steves, of Denver, CO; a son, Lynn Steves, of Littleton, CO; grandchildren Terra Avila of Littleton, CO, Jason (Kelly) Steves of Delray Beach, FL, Toby (Amy) Steves of Brighton, CO; great-grandchildren Jordyn Avila, Mallory and Brayden Steves, Abby, Andrew and Autumn Steves
She is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Elmer Steves who passed away in September 2016, a son, Lamar Steves, daughter-in-law Loretta Steves, brother, Art Fankhauser, sister, Leona Jackson and brother-in-law Ralph Jackson
Calling Hours Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Bartley Funeral Home. Following calling hours, her wishes were to be cremated. The family will come together at a later date for a memorial service. Velma and Elmer's ashes will then be buried together in Moultrie Chapel Cemetery.
